"Heceta Sunset" is an oil painting done 'en plein air', on site, at the location. The sunsets on the Oregon coast had been gorgeous that week. I went out with a friend to attempt to capture one live in paint. We started in the afternoon, laying down our underpaintings, getting our sunset colors mixed and ready on our palettes for what was coming. As the sun dipped lower in the sky, the color show began and we hurried to capture it. Brushes were flying! I never realized how quickly a sunset passes as we scrambled to keep up. We were blessed with this gorgeous sky and were left quite out of breath from the effort. We packed up in the dark and feeling exhausted and joyous from the chase.
